Dog-friendly Holly Springs: the free Sugg Farm dog park and its rules, paved greenways, dog-friendly breweries and the town leash law.
Last checked Oct. 11, 2026. Rules come from the Town of Holly Springs Animal Control page, the dog park page and the town’s Code of Ordinances; patios and events from each business’s own site. Animal Control: 919-557-9111.
Holly Springs has one fenced off-leash dog park, at Sugg Farm, and several miles of paved greenways where leashed dogs can walk. Two local breweries welcome dogs. Everywhere else in town, the rule is simple: if your dog is off your property, it is on a physical leash.
What this means for you
- Off-leash: only inside the fenced Sugg Farm dog park, 7 a.m. to sunset, free.
- Everywhere else: a physical leash; an e-collar or voice control is not enough.
- Clean up after your dog on public property and on anyone else’s property.
- Rabies tag on the collar at all times, required by state law.
The leash law
The town’s Animal Control page sets out the rules officers enforce:
- Dogs must be physically leashed when off the owner’s property. Electronic collars and verbal command are not considered a leash, and dogs and cats may not run at large.
- Owners must remove any feces their pet leaves on someone else’s property or on public property.
- State law requires cats and dogs to be vaccinated against rabies by 4 months of age, kept current, with the tag displayed at all times.
- A barking dog can bring a citation if an officer finds the barking excessive, at any time of day or night.
- A dog bite must be reported to the Police Department; the owner must show proof of rabies vaccination, and the dog is observed for 10 days.
The full ordinances are in the town’s Code of Ordinances; park rules are in Chapter 10, Parks and Recreation.
The Sugg Farm dog park

- Leash and unleash in the double-gated entry, and pick up after your dog.
