Police cadets collect food for the Holly Springs Food Cupboard through Nov. 18. The Angel Tree, Toys for Tots and a Town Hall toy drive run into December.

Holly Springs police and firefighters are collecting food and toys for local families again this year. The town listed five ways to give in a news release Monday.

The first deadline is close. The Thanksgiving food drive ends Wednesday, Nov. 18.

Where each donation goes

Food drive. The police cadets started collecting Oct. 14. Everything goes straight to the Holly Springs Food Cupboard to help local families, the town said.

Angel Tree. School resource officers pick children who could use some holiday help. Each tag on the tree at the Law Enforcement Center lists a child’s name, age, clothing and shoe sizes and a wish list. Take a tag, buy the gifts and bring them back to the lobby. Officers deliver them to the Salvation Army’s collection site.

Shop with a Cop. Officers work with local schools to choose children in need. Each child is paired with an officer to shop for presents for themselves and their family. The town takes donations for the program through an online payment page.

Toys for Tots. Firefighters take the toys to Toys for Tots, the U.S. Marine Corps program that gives toys to children in need.

Town Hall toy drive. Town staff will hand the toys out to children in the area. The town said more details would follow closer to the holidays.

What it means for you

  • Food: drop it at the Law Enforcement Center or Town Hall by Wednesday, Nov. 18. The town’s release did not list the most-needed items.
  • Toys: new and unwrapped only, for both Toys for Tots and the Town Hall drive.
  • Angel Tree gifts: pick up a tag and return the gifts to the Law Enforcement Center lobby by mid-December. The town has not given an exact cutoff date.
  • No time to shop: a gift through the Shop with a Cop page goes to the officers’ shopping trip.
