Holly Springs residents can apply by Friday, Nov. 13, for three seats on the 10-member Police-Community Advisory Group, which meets the police chief four times a year.

Holly Springs residents have two weeks left to apply for a seat on the Police-Community Advisory Group. Three of the 10 resident seats are open, and applications are due Friday, Nov. 13.

The town announced the openings in September. Members serve three-year terms and meet four times a year with Police Chief Paul Liquorie and the department’s leadership.

What the group does

The group links the Police Department with the people it serves. Its members:

  • talk with police leaders about resident, business and neighborhood concerns
  • discuss local and regional crime trends
  • review police training, standards and policies
  • volunteer with officers and staff
  • act as ambassadors for the department in the community

That list comes from the town’s Police-Community Advisory Group page.

Who can apply

According to the town’s release, an applicant must:

  • live inside the Holly Springs town limits
  • pass a criminal background check
  • attend the eight weekly sessions of the department’s Citizen Police Academy within the first year

The police chief and the town manager make the appointments each December, the town’s page says. A member can serve no more than two full terms.

When it meets

Meetings are at 7 p.m. on the second Thursday of January, April, July and October. Most are at the Holly Springs Law Enforcement Center, 750 Holly Springs Road. The meetings are open to the public, so residents can attend without being members. The next one falls on Thursday, Jan. 14.

What it means for you

  • Apply on the town’s online application form by Friday, Nov. 13.
  • Plan for the time: four evening meetings a year, plus eight weekly academy sessions in your first year.
  • Not applying? You can still sit in on the quarterly meetings. The town posts agendas and minutes on its agendas and minutes page.

The town takes applications each year from mid-September to the second Friday of November, and when a seat comes open. For the department’s other news, see our Police and Fire log.
