Remembering
Veterans Park, 600 Bikram Drive, is the town’s park dedicated to people who served in the military, according to the park page. It has a Veterans Memorial, an American Liberty Elm planted as a symbol of enduring freedom, a playground, an accessible fishing pier and a half-mile paved loop around the pond that connects to Jones Park.
The park’s War on Terror Memorial honors civilian and military service members who died in the War on Terror and in the Sept. 11 attacks. A granite pillar inscribed with the names of local service members who died rises from a pentagon-shaped brick patio, topped by a piece of steel from the World Trade Center, the town’s memorial page says. It was built as an Eagle Scout project by David Griffith, whose older brother, Marine Corps Maj. Sam Griffith, is among those honored.
The town had not posted a Memorial Day 2027 ceremony when we checked. Its annual Veterans Day ceremony is held at the Veterans Memorial; in 2026 it is at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, according to the town calendar. We add any Memorial Day ceremony here once the organizer posts it. Tell us about one.
Memorial Day weekend
- Salamanders baseball (2026 details): the Holly Springs Salamanders, a summer collegiate team, opened their 2026 home schedule May 22 and held a Memorial Day Celebration game at 5:05 p.m. Monday, May 25, 2026, according to the team’s 2026 schedule of events. The 2027 schedule had not been posted.
- Bass Lake Park, 900 Bass Lake Road, 8 a.m. to sunset: boat rentals open Memorial Day, with canoes and jon boats at $10 an hour and motorized Gheenoe boats at $15 an hour, according to the town’s boating and fishing page. There is no swimming. Anglers 16 and older need a North Carolina inland fishing license.
- Summer at the Springs, the town’s free Friday concerts on the Cultural Center lawn, started the Friday before Memorial Day in 2026, May 22, according to the series page.
