Holly Springs has 3 draft designs for a downtown festival street on Avent Ferry Road that can close for events. Rate them in the town's survey, open through November.

Holly Springs has drawn up three designs for a festival street on Avent Ferry Road downtown, and it wants residents to say which parts they like. The online survey is open through November, the town said Wednesday.

A festival street is a road that can be closed to traffic for special events. While it is closed, it works as an open-air plaza for markets, festivals and community celebrations.

The three concepts came out of recent community engagement events and earlier online surveys, the town said. The final design could mix elements from all three.

The three designs

The survey page names the main features of each concept:

Feature Four Square The Green Gateway with Infill
On-street parking Yes
Green space or community green Corner of Avent Ferry Road and Ballentine Street Community green Community green
Entry monuments or gateway Entry monuments Entry monuments A larger entry gateway
String lights Yes Yes Yes
Shade structures Yes Yes Yes
Seat wall Yes Yes Yes
Other Area behind Town Hall that can switch between a parking lot and a park Rounded intersections with special paving New buildings that could hold stores and restaurants on the ground floor, and reworked parking lot driveways

A blank cell means the survey does not list that feature for the concept. Drawings of each design are on the survey page.

How the survey works

For each concept, the survey asks you to:

  • rate the overall design from 1 (dislike a lot) to 5 (like a lot)
  • tick the features you like best
  • say what you dislike

A final box takes any other comments. Comments already posted on the page are mixed. Several question the cost or the loss of parking, and others back particular features.

The town has not published a cost or a construction date for the project.
