What is new this year

Holly Springs is marking its 150th anniversary all year, and the town has added extras at HollyFest, sponsored by Genentech, according to its HollyFest page:

  • Line dancing: a guided session with 8 Count Country every hour on the hour from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the town’s 150th area.
  • Scavenger hunt: a one-day festival hunt played on the free HollyQuest app. Teams that finish win a prize at the 150th booth while supplies last.
  • Mini pumpkin patch: sponsored by Needmore Farms. The first 1,000 children can pick and decorate a free mini pumpkin, then crafts take over once the pumpkins run out.
  • History timeline: a walk-through display of town history.
  • Souvenirs: 150th anniversary Holly Springs shirts and commemorative pint glasses at the town’s tents, credit cards only.

Staff from nearly every town department will be there, with fire engines, emergency vehicles and yard waste trucks to look at up close. More on the anniversary is on the town’s 150th page.

Parking, drop-off and getting out

Parking is in the event lots at Sugg Farm. The town asks drivers to watch for people walking around the lots and lists three ways out, according to the HollyFest page:

  • Blooming Meadows Road and Stinson exit: take Blooming Meadows Road to Stinson Avenue.
  • Grigsby exit: open to departing cars all day; head to Main Street and on to Holly Springs Road or NC 55.
  • Teal Lake exit: open to departing cars all day; head to NC 55.

Parking is prohibited on neighborhood streets next to Sugg Farm. Drivers dropping people off can let them out beside the event field, then leave by Teal Lake Drive. The town recommends picking people up at Womble Park, 1201 Grigsby Ave.

Beer and food

Food vendors sell throughout the day. Beer from local breweries can be carried anywhere inside the festival field this year, not only in a beer garden. Buyers get a hand stamp and a wristband, which they must wear while walking with a drink. Beer cannot leave the event field, and outside alcohol is not allowed, according to the town.
